Meeting minutes from Qt Release Team meeting 14th April 2015

Qt 5.5 Beta status

- First LGPL snapshot finally coming

- Almost all beta blockers fixed from https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-44653, let's see how many new will be found after snapshot is out & tested

- Merge from '5.4' to '5.5' needed before beta release (to get needed 3rd party lib updates in)

- Target is to get beta out as soon as possible (but we need to get binaries out & tested first)

Qt 5.4.2 status

- First snapshot already available in http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/5.4/5.4.2/

- Needed 3rd party library updates should be in

- Metabug for blockers: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-44881 (empty at the moment)

Qt 4.8.7 status:

- New Qt 4.8.7 snapshot build available http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/4.8/4.8.7/2015-04-14-7/
- Snapshot is built against current HEAD (SHA-1: 4bc86c34e2d2f4c1d1c1002c94f857d9adc51194 Update bundled libpng to version 1.6.17)
- Content wise all expected changes are in as far I'm aware (including libtiff and libpng 3rd party library updates)
- Installers are not yet signed and actual changes-4.8.7 is missing so rebuild is needed as usual
- We could try to freeze sha1 now and consider this content wise as "release candidate" for Qt 4.8.7

[17:02:32] <kkoehne> jaheikki3: pong
[17:03:21] <thiago_> jaheikki3: pong
[17:03:32] <jaheikki3> Time to start release team meeting
[17:03:37] <jaheikki3> On agenda today
[17:03:42] <jaheikki3> Qt 5.5 beta status
[17:03:47] <jaheikki3> Qt 5.4.2 status
[17:03:53] <jaheikki3> Qt 4.8.7 status
[17:04:03] <jaheikki3> Any additional item to the agenda?
[17:06:10] <jaheikki3> Ok, first Qt 5.5.0 beta status:
[17:06:50] <jaheikki3> First LGPL snapshot finally coming, builds are ongoing
[17:07:06] <jaheikki3> Let's hope we will have at least some packages already today...
[17:08:12] <jaheikki3> Almost all beta blockers fixed from https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-44653, let's see how many new will be found after snapshot is out & tested
[17:09:03] <jaheikki3> Merge from '5.4' needed before beta release (to get needed 3rd party lib updates in)
[17:10:08] <jaheikki3> Target is to get beta out as soon as possible but we need to get binaries out & tested first
[17:10:43] <jaheikki3> thiago: is those QtDBus threading changes in?
[17:10:50] <thiago_> no
[17:11:09] <thiago_> they're all approved, but we ran into the problems discussed in the ML about events in threads
[17:11:36] <thiago_> if I push them as-is, it will break KUniqueApplication
[17:12:51] <jaheikki3> OK. There is still time because quite many things open still...
[17:12:59] <thiago_> yeah
[17:13:26] <jaheikki3> That's pretty much all about 5.5 beta. Any comments / questions?
[17:15:00] <jaheikki3> Then Qt 5.4.2 status:
[17:15:25] <jaheikki3> Branching started. '5.4.2' branch available, downmerge from '5.4' to '5.4.2' will be done this Friday
[17:16:07] <jaheikki3> First snapshot already available in http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/5.4/5.4.2/. Linux & mac ones there, windows ones coming
[17:16:45] <jaheikki3> i'll sent info to the ML about the snapshot when windows ones are available as well
[17:17:10] <jaheikki3> Metabug for blockers: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-44881 (empty at the moment)
[17:17:39] <thiago_> nice
[17:19:47] <jaheikki3> 3rd party libs should be updated now. Only open issue is libtiff: It should be newest one (4.0.3) but on the other hand codenomicon reported that in 5.4.1 it is still 3.9.2 (which is too old)
[17:20:55] <zbenjamin> iieklund: ok i managed to build qt5 with the mkqt5 script \o/ ... now how do i get those archives into the create_installer script?
[17:21:10] <zbenjamin> ^^ or anyone else who knows :D
[17:21:22] <jaheikki3> - Target is to release Qt 5.4.2 at the end of April / Beginning of may
[17:21:33] <jaheikki3> Any comments / questions?
[17:22:58] <thiago_> 3rdparty update should be in 5.5, not 5.4
[17:25:22] <jaheikki3> thiago_: I think we agreed last time to update those in 5.4.2... And Lars said that in ML as well
[17:25:53] <thiago_> only for security issues
[17:25:57] -*- thiago_ missed that email
[17:26:12] <jaheikki3> thiago_: Yes, you are right
[17:26:19] <lars> thiago_: they fix security issues IIRC
[17:27:12] <lars> thiago_: see the mail from Mikko Kenttala on security
[17:28:33] <thiago_> lars: that email was out of context
[17:28:37] <thiago_> but ok, then let's do it
[17:29:14] <jaheikki3> Ok, thats all about 5.4.2
[17:29:20] <lars> thiago_: yes, it could have been clearer written
[17:29:56] <jaheikki3> Then Qt 4.8.7 status. akseli:
[17:30:05] <akseli> New Qt 4.8.7 snapshot build available http://download.qt.io/snapshots/qt/4.8/4.8.7/2015-04-14-7/
[17:30:11] <akseli> Snapshot is built against current HEAD (SHA-1: 4bc86c34e2d2f4c1d1c1002c94f857d9adc51194 Update bundled libpng to version 1.6.17)
[17:30:21] <akseli> Content wise all expected changes are in as far I'm aware (including libtiff and libpng 3rd party library updates)
[17:30:29] <akseli> Installers are not yet signed and actual changes-4.8.7 is missing so rebuild is needed as usual
[17:30:37] <akseli> We could try to freeze sha1 now and consider this content wise as "release candidate" for Qt 4.8.7
[17:30:43] <akseli> That would mean intensive testing and go \ no go -decision on next release team meeting
[17:30:50] <akseli> Any comments \ questions?
[17:33:15] <jaheikki3> I think this was all at this time. Ok to have new meeting next tue at this same time?
[17:35:54] <akseli> +1
[17:36:20] <jaheikki3> Ok, let's end this meeting now. Thanks & bye!
[17:36:53] <akseli> bye
[17:37:08] <thiago_> thanks
