Just comment out lines 2-3.
(Long story: hackish workaround in case you happen to invoke the
script using sh instead of perl -- it re-execs it using perl. But it
uses $*, which causes the Perl >= 5.10 _parser_ to complain. All in
all it has only been deprecated around 1996...)
