I'm not even sure QImage is the right class for more serious color/imaging work,
It's certainly useful to have more imaging support including color
profile handling,
metadata reading/writing/modifications, efficient loading of large images,
other color spaces (16 bit or floating point linear space, YUV, Lab, CMYK).

All this would certainly be useful, but those features don't really
fit the current QImage purpose,
maybe starting the new QtImaging module would be more appropriate?
