How much work does it take to create a dangling branch, or to go the other way
Steve suggested and just go for a tag?

Then call it 4.8.4 and please include the SSL patch, because it is
*critical*.

MingW + SSL are signifcant changes. It hurts to try to do things right by
doing things wrong.
