I'm on openSUSE 13.1 as well, and pkg-config works, but the package is called "dbus-1", 
not just "dbus", so maybe there's the issue?

I haven't tried Qt 5.4.0 myself yet but I'm going to build it soon... I recall that I've had the same 
issue with 5.3.x, but disabling dbus on the configure command line worked for me.
