tbh, i think thiago is a bit optimistic. the build system has several
files that are internal, and keeping them compatible between releases is
a burden.

the other argument is that it doesn't seem very wise to take the parts
that are effectively still part of the LTS entirely out of our testing
systems. especially as with the new CI, having these modules still in
shouldn't add much cost to the release process.
