They probably also forgot to ensure that users can run that tool themselves (= 
update sync.profile or something like that)?

Not differently, but "as much as possible like before". There's still too much 
software out there that requires QtWebkit, whether you like it or not. The 
replacement module can already be built in the same kind of 
deployment/distribution procedure (configure/make/install), so why make it 
(deliberately) obligatory to make invasive, temporary changes to that procedure 
that go beyond grabbing an additional tarball and unpacking it at the right 
location?
