Oh, yeah, they almost did that to Superman in Portuguese too ("super-homem") 
by dropping the hyphen and the 'h'.

I still miss the trema/diaeresis ("umlaut" sign)... the next generation won't 
know if "frequency" and "liquid" is pronounced with a /k/ (like in French) or 
a /kʷ/ sound (like in English).
