I would dare proposing to make a 5.16-free in addition to or instead of 
5.15-free. I see no reason to withhold features (at least features 
backported from 6.x, so that they are not a dead end) from 5.x as long as 
6.x is not finished, and if 5.16-free allows new features, that would give 
more people an incentive to use it (and potentially contribute to it) over 
5.15-commercial.
