Indeed, that's what I am asking: Wayland display managers on newer distros,
native X11 retained only for older ones.

I understand, but I ask you to consider that the "Qt software out
there that depends on native X11" that Peppe mentioned might be run with
XWayland. So we need a modicum of testing on it.
It's probably not going to be a lot. If we've done our jobs right, then Qt
applications would always prefer native Wayland instead of XWayland.
