A Linux 32-bit kernel leaves 3 GB of addressing space for the application and
runs itself in the top 1 GB of memory.

A Linux 64-bit kernel leaves all 4 GB of addressing space for 32-bit
applications.

There's no excuse for running a 32-bit kernel on a 64-bit desktop or laptop-
class machine.
