A few ideas to test:

Split your rectangle in two.

Add a second rectangle over the other and blur it.

Add a second rectangle over the other, blur it and put an item around 
with a crop: true so you can avoid the second rectangle spilling over 
the other.

Which one to use depends on your specific case.
