of cause i tried that, that was the first thing i did after the problem exploded, but with no luck.
The openGL version of the testing XP machine is 2.1, which is enough for Qt (openGL 2+), 
Obviously Qt does not use that.

You could also try updating the OpenGL drivers to the latest version. The 
Intel drivers have improved vastly over the last 12 months.
