Circa 4.8 and a bit before, when QML was getting added, deleteLater() 
would cause crashes. I was on a project where we not only banned its 
use, we took a day removing it from the code base once we identified the 
problem.

I don't remember the specifics of "why" it was causing crashes, just 
that it was.

If the code base you are re-using is from that era, that team took a 
different approach to solving the problem.
