[Interest] Extension modules: Is there some documentation?

Hi!

I recently switched to 6.8.2 and noticed that web engine and pdf are now so-called “extension modules”. I understand the concept in principle (I think the idea of separating deployment of web engine from Qt as a whole, so you can patch issues separately, is about a decade old).

Can someone point me to useful documentation on how they behave in detail?
For example, I noticed that I get “updates” for the extension modules in Qt maintenance tool, although I have firmly only selected their 6.8.2 versions. Is this a bug of the maintenance tool?
I want to make sure I have the exact configuration locally that is also going to be deployed, so I’d like to understand how this works.

Kind regards

Robert
