Hello everybody,

Tiled, a free and open source map editing tool written in Qt/C++, has been accepted into Google Summer of Code for the second time this year. We expect a large amount of interested students who'd like to work on Tiled for 175 or 350 hours over the course of about three months and we're looking for additional mentors.

The expected time commitment for a mentor is about 1 hour/day on average. You can read more about being a GSoC mentor here: https://google.github.io/gsocguides/mentor/what-makes-a-good-mentor.html

Our organization has 2 GSoC admins, one of them (me) being available full-time (40h/week). Both of us are familiar with Tiled and will also be mentors. Tiled participated in GSoC for the first time in 2017, during which we succesfully mentored 3 students.

A short summary of currently proposed projects:

* Replacing the current QGaphicsView based map view with a Qt Quick based one, with custom scene graph items.
* Writing a new cross-platform QStyle to modernize the general look-and-feel (can be implemented such that other apps can use it as well).
* Enhancement to the editing (conveniently editing multiple adjacent maps).
* glTF export for Maps
* Allowing QML extensions (expanding the current JS extension API)

(more details at https://github.com/mapeditor/tiled/wiki/GSoC-2026)

If there is anybody on this list who would like to mentor a student this summer, who knows Qt and C++ and who may have already heard of Tiled or sees an interesting project, please get in touch!

Thanks,
Thorbjørn
