These mostly revolved around how well Open Governance was going (generally looking for reassurance that Qt was still a viable option to choose) and about what resources were available for people wanting to get started. I'm not sure there was enough activity to warrant the Qt Project running a stand on its own, but I definitely think for next year a hand-out with details on getting started with developing Qt (not PR fluff), and about upcoming dev events, would be of benefit for the project. Cheers! John. P.S. The decision by Linus to use Qt in Subsurface was mentioned a few times by people as a factor in their interest in porting from Gtk... Hi John We ran a stand last year but it didn't work out. Poor Tobias had to stay there most of the time and we had to borrow people from the KDE stand to staff it. We didn't have enough collateral either. To run a stand again -- and I think we should for next year's FOSDEM, maybe this year's OSCON too -- we need to be sure to have enough staffing, to have the collateral, etc. As for governance, I presented that topic two years in a row at FOSDEM, so I decided not to do it this year. I also did not attend due to travel budget constraints at Intel. I did present "Qt Project 2 years later" at LinuxCon Europe last year showing that the governance is working fine and that the project is a success and continues to be viable. If you have any contacts still looking for that reassurance, point them to my session. As for the "getting started", I wonder what we can do. Besides making more wiki pages, does anyone have a suggestion? > P.S. The decision by Linus to use Qt in Subsurface was mentioned a few > times by people as a factor in their interest in porting from Gtk... Red herring... the decision was Dirk's :-) Besides, running an app on Mac, Window and Linux? That's where we excel at. If you want interesting stories, look at Wireshark and LXDE porting from Gtk to Qt. Especially LXDE, since they're not in the business of doing cross- platform. -- Thiago Macieira - thiago (AT) macieira.info - thiago (AT) kde.org Software Architect - Intel Open Source Technology Center PGP/GPG: 0x6EF45358; fingerprint: E067 918B B660 DBD1 105C 966C 33F5 F005 6EF4 5358 From thiago.macieira at intel.com Sat Feb 15 02:03:54 2014 From: thiago.macieira at intel.com (Thiago Macieira) Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2014 17:03:54 -0800 Subject: [Marketing] Qt Contributor Summit 2014 dates?
