I call it a Feature. I find myself regularily in a situation where I need to
paste a slightly modified version of some application's output into 
another one. In this case it is rather convienient to be able to edit the
text before cut&paste instead of having it to copy to a separate 
text editor, modify it there and c&p a second time.

So unless you are really annoyed be the current behaviour I'd rather
keep it.
