The problem with tabs, IMHO, is that I would rather maximize my screen 
real estate with code not toolbars, and tab bars, and other meaningless 
cruft.  Being an emacs user the split horizontal thing is about as good 
as it gets for me where I can have *.H & *.C files next to each other 
and hack away.  The way I see it, tabs steal screen area that I should 
have to view my code and if I need to know what is open and look at it 
then have the Open Files pane there but I prefer to just have my code 
showing and use the ctrl+tab to see the quick switch list.  This way I 
don't have to remove my fingers from the keyboard (where all code 
ultimately starts) to futz with a mouse.   While it isn't much area on a 
big monitor, on a laptop the tabs are proportionally taking a lot of 
space.  Just my thoughts.
