from running configure.exe --help:

-fast    Configure Qt quickly by generating Makefiles only
          for library and subdirectory targets. All other
          Makefiles are created as wrappers which will in
          turn run qmake

and then a cd into src would have saved you maybe 1.5 hours.


One can also run:
configure -nomake demos -nomake example
