[Qt-creator] Build Issue in Qt Creator: collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I just installed Qt SDK 2009.03 on Windows XP SP3.

In Qt Creator, I sometimes get the following error when I attempt to build a project:

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

What does this error mean? I've found reference to it on the web in relation to Linux-based applications, but not for Windows.

It's intermittent, in the sense that I can't work out what's causing it! It seems to occur always when building one particular (simple) project I've created and then with others built subsequently. Sorry to be vague... Restarting Qt Creator and creating and building a new Qt GUI project works without error.

Two things that may be involved:
- I installed Debugging Tools for Windows before installing the Qt SDK
- I previously installed qt-4.5.2-tower (but I've checked my PATH and QTDIR variables and Qt Creator options and these both refer to C:\Qt\2009.03\qt)

I also noticed the following at one point:

   Starting C:\src\test\debug\test.exe...

   Cannot retrieve debugging output!

   C:\src\test\debug\test.exe exited with code 0s

Is this related? Why can't debugging output be retrieved?

Thanks
