It is not that I don't want to compile Qt 4.7, I already do have it.

Being able to compile with 4.6 can be a bit more attractive to the users (not 
developers) using distros that come out with packaged 4.6.. it's a matter of 
reaching a wider target.

In the end I'm stopping tracking master to give a chance to 4.6 users and will 
rebase my Inspector plugin when Qt 4.7 starts to get adopted ;-)
