It should have detected the default compiler provided it is in your path.

Please check Tools->Options->Toolchains. Do you have a toolchain set up?

If you have a toolchain able to create code for the ABI the Qt version uses, then
those get associated automatically.

You seem to have lots of problems with the new creators... I hope you are not
giving up on it!
