At least I haven't heard about this before, and I'm using Ubuntu 64bit too.

Things you can do:
 * Check whether it's tied to some action (e.g. C++ parser running in the background when you load projects?), check CPU/memory usage
 * Create a new user, and try to reproduce
 * Check whether other Qt apps (designer) are slow too
 * Get Qt Creator 2.2 and check whether it's still broken for you (http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/QtCreator2.2Download)
