"Add existing files" is afair only implemented for .pro file based projects. What project kind do you use?
With e.g. cmake you need to edit your CMakeList.txt to add files.

Subject: [Qt-creator] "Add Existing Files" grayed out from a folder in the Projects sidebar
Hi.
Just wondering if I'm doing this the right way in QtCreator.
I created a folder via Windows Explorer that is inside another "parent" folder that is seen from my project managed by QtCreator.
I copied there 2 C++ files.
Now I want the QtCreator include those 2 files in my project.
How can I do that?

Saludos,
Tomás.
