It does not.

Creator defaults to whatever you have set up as "Default build 
directory" in Tools>Options>Build & Run. Out of the box that is set up 
for shadow building, but you are free to change that. You can even do 
that from a custom installer that you can provide for your developers.

If you do not like the default on a per-project level you are also free 
to change the build directory to the source directoy in the target setup 
page of the wizard/Unconfigured project page: Just use '.' for the build 
directory.
