[Qt-creator] Changing UI text

Hello,

I was hoping to make people more aware of how much work they cause others by making minor changes. In the example case, the screenshots in the tutorials need to be changed, because they help users know where the should be in the UI. And if it does not matter whether the text it the UI is “Applications” or “Application”, why change it in the first place?

As Thomas said, it is not always necessary to update all the screenshots if something changes. However, if you don’t even look at the docs, you don’t know whether the change is necessary or not. And if I don’t know about the change, I cannot consider which screenshots need to change.

If you are planning several changes to one dialog or window, it is of course better to take the screenshots after you done all of them, as Ossi suggested.

Hi,

we also have to keep in mind that our screenshots are not "WYSIWYG" anyway because we support 3 operating systems (and theming).
As a rule of thumb I would suggest to update screenshots only if the outdated screenshots are confusing
(e.g. showing wrong/non existing options).

Kind Regards,
Thomas Hartmann

Also, check whether you need to take new screen shots, as described here:

well, no, don't. if everybody actually started to update the
screenshots after every stupid gui change, it would soon take an hour to
clone creator (and i don't mean over a 56k modem).

At the very least, ask me to review the changes, so that I’ll know
about them and have the time to make the necessary changes myself
before the release.

that's much more reasonable for the screenshots part.

also, for mostly cosmetic changes (the threshold being "after adjusting
the docu to the new ui, the screenshot causes more confusion than it
clears up"), don't bother updating at all. it really doesn't matter
whether the button is on the left or the right, for example.
