Hmm... I don't know if you can see it or not, but there's an extra Unicode 
character between the " and the 1.0. It's the BOM, probably encoded in UTF-8 
in the output.

This sounds like a bug in QXmlStreamWriter. Can you please report it via the 
task tracker system so we don't forget to fix it?
