[Qt-interest] Painter problem

Hi list

        Using suse 11.0 & kdevelop, my Qt4 code ( which has worked well in
the past) is behaving strangely. The basic widget appears but the intended
write of graphics to an image does not occur, instead the following message
appears

                               QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine
== 0, type: 3

      This is still obscure to me although I have perused the relative
documentation. I would appreciate some clarification please.

                   While on the subject I find many error messages
impenetrable, is there some place on the net where error messages are
expanded, clarified or explained?
