Thanks, Tony.  The zero timer worked perfectly.  I still wonder if there 
isn't a better method.

I also seem to recall selecting a row in a slot connected to a model's 
dataChanged() signal working in previous versions of Qt, say around 4.2 
or so, although I haven't gone back to figure out exactly where (nor am 
I 100% certain of this).  If I ever get a spare moment, I'll experiment 
with some older versions of Qt.

Anyway, thanks for the help, Tony.  Much appreciated.
