Maybe I'm wrong on assuming what you're trying to achieve, and frankly
I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm right, you might want to remove that
else, though the flow is quite illogical and can highly simplified.

Btw, your error message is one of the best I've ever seen... unless
it's a true requirement O_o
