[Qt-interest] ssl server kaput

The documentation for QSslSocket at
http://doc.trolltech.com/4.5/qsslsocket.html#details describes how to
develop an SSL server. But I find the server abruptly closes the connection
when I call serverSocket->startServerEncryption().
According to Qt's "Task Tracker", this is a known issue, but there are no
plans to fix it:

So my questions are:
1) Any idea why this was rejected? It seems odd to me that example code in
the documentation doesn't work.
2) If I fix the bug myself, is there a process by which I can contribute it
back to the codebase?
