Sorry, I think I was in an ironic mood when answering this :).
Surely, Qt is suitable for this job. If you want to write mission criticial,
high performance and stable server software, it's more a question of the
programmer's skills. Qt gives you a framework that enables you to create such
software in a platform independent way (which IMHO is the most interesting
aspect of it).
The reason why people tend to think it may not be suitable for this job is
that Qt is probably more well known as a "GUI framework". But you can also
write GUI-less / text-only / daemon-like software and still use all
the "goodies" and methods that are unique to Qt (like the signal/slot
mechanism for example).
I don't have an example for such a beast at hand, I'm sorry, but that doesn't
mean it does not exist. What I can say, however, is that I've seen extremely
expensive so called "mission critical" software not using Qt (oh, "Such A
Pain" :)!) which really isn't well programmed. Maybe, if they'd used Qt
instead, they would have made their software really worthwhile using (and
paying for it), because Qt would've helped them to avoid many of their
bugs... but then again, this doesn't mean it can "save the world".
