Structural engineering.

But I believe the look and feel of file selection dialog is important for any commercial application at least for a Windows market. Functionality is counted, but if user every time trying to open or save the file feels uncomfortable, this is not a good sign, especially if he needs to do it often.
In my practice such features are considered bugs.
If you had two application with exactly the same functionality, but one provided the dialog which requires less concentration to work with, cause it is the same as hundred more applications show on your computer, which one would you chose?

Also I was not complaining about that support accident, even though I was not feeling happy at that time.
I was trying to make a point that it looks like there is some Windows discrimination going on here, if even the support personal does not have access to supported platform.

In addition I want to mention that it might be pretty a difficult task to make QFileDialog non-static members to use native dialog with providing all standard QDialog features.
But it is not that difficult to modify static functions to allow user to add some customization.

May I ask in what area you application resides, that the look and feel of a simple file selection dialog is of that importance?

Also I want to note that in my previous company I was working with we had excellent support experience! Sometimes we even received a patch (!) when reporting a problem - without even asking for it! In the next minor version the issue was solved as well.

I must admit we were in the automobile industry (simulation / reporting), where functionality counted more than "look & feel" ;)

Cheers, Oliver
