[Qt-interest] how does qmake separate debug and release versions of libs?

For eg, how does it know that phonon4.lib goes into release build, and phonond4.lib for debug build?

If I also have my own libs like that, say mystuff.lib and mystuffd.lib, how do I express that in
my .pro file?
