[Qt-interest] How to dim / blur the background dialog?

By using a window manager that supports this.

People, please stop trying to achieve effects in your software which aren't in 
your software's realm. The example of blurred or semi-transparent windows 
might look nice and cool on your fast hardware and with your selected gui-
style but might be very slow and wrong looking on other machines with different 
gui-styles.
There is a reason why Qt gives us a generic interface to components with 
nothing to worry about specific things like selecting the right style and 
behaviour.

To see whether your app is to making wrong usage of gui-things, try running it 
with a different color-theme (if your normal theme is a light one, test a dark 
one and vice versa) and a different gui-style. If it still looks good (if there 
is anything looking good in the old win95-style:) then your gui is built 
correctly and will give the user-experience you have to others...
