This depends on your linux distribution and current backend. If you
compiled Qt yourself, chances are you are using the GStreamer backend.
Due to legal concerns most distros only ship with a few plugins and
require you to enable external or unsupported repositories to gain
support for commercial media codecs such as mp3. There are most likely a
lot of pages explaining how to do this if you search for "mp3 support"
with you particular version of linux.
