Thats (IMHO) a bizarre way of seeing this. Replying to the list makes sure
that not only the poster sees the answer but everybody else too, making it
easy to correct your mail if needed, supply additional information and
making the whole conversation archivable. And IMHO you can expect the
original poster to read the list and check for answers to his questions.

And if you send both, then you're basically spamming the original poster
with two versions of your mail, needlessly.
