It could also be that your clock is set to some time in the past and you 
unpacked sources you downloaded which had times that are in the future 
from you. (But I think in that case make says something about time in the 
future instead of clock skew)

Using NTP to synchronise clocks is always recommended, in any situation, 
even for laptops that are not always connected to the Internet and may 
roam from WLAN to WLAN. But if you're using a network drive, like NFS, NTP 
is mandatory.

Make sure both your workstation and the server have their clocks properly 
synchronised.
