The OP is using QWS anyway so as long as he doesn't have X running on the same 
VT as he is trying to use he should be OK. As was mentioned his key sequence 
is being consumed before his app sees it. So rather than messing around with 
trying to stop this, the easiest method is to use a different key sequence.
