We're pleased to announce that a Beta of Qt 4.6 - the upcoming new version of the Qt cross-platform application and UI framework for desktop, embedded and mobile development - is now available for download, testing and feedback. Qt 4.6 is scheduled for release in Q4 2009, with an interim Release Candidate planned.
The Qt 4.6 Beta incorporates feedback gathered from the Technology Preview released in September, and provides a more stable preview of the new features and optimizations slated for release in Qt 4.6, including:
- Advanced graphics effects, new animation framework and multitouch support
- Support for new platforms, inluding Windows 7 and the new port to the Symbian platform with integration for the S60 framework
- Improved performance

MinGW 4.4 UPDATE, 3.4 SUPPORT AVAILABLE FOR Qt 4.6 SERIES

>From the release of Qt 4.6.0 in Q4 2009, Qt will upgrade to the more modern gcc 4.4 based MinGW compiler on Windows. Support for MinGW 3.4 will continue to be offered throughout the lifetime of the Qt 4.6.x series, and will not be discontinued with the 4.6 release as earlier communicated.

In conjunction with the Qt 4.6 beta, we'd like to announce the launch of The Qt Blog which will include product and roadmap information, details on Qt usage, and other topics that interest the Qt community. The Qt Blog is available now at http://blog.qt.nokia.com.
