[Qt-interest] cross-compiling Qt for MinGW host

Is there any chance that a future Qt build system will allow cross
building Qt for MinGW from Linux, maybe in such a way that "./configure
-xplatform win32-g++" would "just work" out of the box? How much demand
is there for this?
A related question is whether the configure script could be made
compatible with MSYS under MingGW. This would provide an alternative to
the binary configure.exe when building Qt for MingGW in Windows.
There are several different outdated how-to guides on this subject, and
Fedora has RPMs. The methods I have seen either have tricks to make the
configure script work or they run the configure.exe binary under Wine.
Has anybody tried rebuilding the "configure.exe" binary to run in Linux
but still produce a configuration for the MinGW host?
Does anyone have information about cross-building Qt 4.6 Technology
Preview 1?
Thanks and regards, Mark
