[Qt-interest] utf-16 and Linux?

If a text is copied from a Qt app., which is storing it internally as utf-16, 
what determines, how will it be stored into clipboard? I even get very 
confused thinking about the fact, that KDE is based on Qt -- so it's actually 
a utf-16 system then? (I was living with an idea about utf-8...)
