Because there are other things of higher priority in the networking side.
For example:
- Zero-copy passing of data
- SSL updates (EV, revocation, TLS 1.1 to 1.4, renegotiation, session
support, certificate and key creation, on-demand identification)
- DNSSEC
- performance in the HTTP stack (pipelining, throughput, latency)
- multipart MIME support (for POST and PUT)
Not to mention that the networking team is the same team as the rest of I/O,
so they are also working on File I/O performance, which requires rewriting the
entire file engine code, and write a new backend for Symbian.
We understand that there are people and company that want this, but given the
relative priority, it may not get done. It's easier to get this contributed in
instead.
I should point out that I have received a requirement for this for an
important client (no, not Nokia). So the priority might change.
