Setting the button background color will not work properly on windows after xp and even
with xp, it won't work depending on themes and such.  
(See the caution at the end of the help for setpalette().)

You need to use style sheets:
MyButton->setStyleSheet("background-color:  purple");

Or check the help for style sheets.
