I'm still mostly command-line oriented, just like you, but I've learned that
debugging in Creator is easier than outside of it. There's some setting up
involved (i.e., configuring the project), so I usually use it for my normal
workflow.
When I have to debug something outside of it, I use the command-line gdb.
