I've never understood why the GNU Project bothered to continue to pursue
this goal when -- almost 30 years later -- Linux has firmly and quite
robustly taken the place of the commercial UN*X operating systems.  More
choices are better, I suppose, but it could also end up fragmenting
development focus.
