[Qt-interest] How make Qt projects / Makefiles with no hard-coded paths?

Just to reiterate my understanding...
The advantage of "qmake myproject.pro" is a new Makefile will be created under Linux, adjusting any relative paths for the destination path the source code was checked-out into ?
The Makefile should not be versioned controlled.
I will only need to specify which Qt qmake version to add to the path in the build machine environment,.
