Well, that pointed me to the right direction. There are fonts installed, however
the freetype-dev (which I think, is the font engine for Qt/X11?) package was not
installed by default. After installing that (+ all the *-dev, *proto and
*proto-dev packages that I missed for X11) and recompilation of Qt fixes it.
