Isn't combination of QMainWindow and floating QDockWidget answer to your question?

Subject: [Qt-interest] QToolBox overlapped on top of window

Hey.

Basically I want a toolbox on top of my main window without re-arranging the contents like HBoxLayout does. I already asked this on the forums ( http://developer.qt.nokia.com/forums/viewthread/1391/ - has pictures) but no-one seems to know the answer.

Add it to the toolbox to the right hand side gives the behaviour needed (overlap contents, instead of pushing them to the left), but adding the toolbox to the left does the opposite (pushes the contents right). Maybe I need some kind of resize policy?

I looked but couldn't find much.
